Scars - Self image

So I've started my AP Portfolio for this year, and my concentration is, as the title states, Scars.
I decided to delve deeper into the meanings of scars;
A scar, literally, is an overreaction; it shows the human's natural tendency to overcompensate for the hurts in their lives; if a place gets cut, the body's natural reaction is to cover it up thicker so that place won't get cut again, so these pieces will look at how people have reacted to their past; the marks that the past has left on them.
I looked at several different kinds of scars, and have several other pieces lined up that show a wide range of pasts and reactions that people show.
This one was interesting for me; I feel like it kind of embodies the whole concentration more than some of the others that take the theme of 'scars' more literally, but this one looks deeper. My idea was that she's had breast implants (some surgeons go under the arm to insert the implant so the scar isn't as obvious), so what does that say about her? she's beautiful, why did she want to make her breasts bigger? why did she try to be perfect?
this painting is less about the physical scar left by her search for beauty, but the emotional scar of the human's desire to be accepted, and the intolerance of the modern image of beauty. Modern women are constantly bombarded with the message 'you aren't good enough' for the sake of selling a product, so they change their bodies, trying to fit a mold, that's why she has the furrowed brow and the furtive glance to the side; she's uncertain; is she beautiful enough for you? for them?
I really enjoyed this piece, it was great fun and allowed me to go into a deeper meaning of the picture instead of just a surface image. Hope you all like it!
